Supports and Tools for Elder Abuse Prevention
Use our FREE and ready-to-use materials to engage and educate your community about the role everyone can play in preventing elder abuse. The STEAP Initiative was launched by the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA), in partnership with USAging, in an effort to educate and empower communities to create a sturdy structure of support to notice, report, and prevent abuse. The centerpiece of this Initiative is a toolkit with practical and customizable (PDF | 764 KB) elder abuse education and outreach resources, including:

Through this Initiative, NCEA and USAging will make a concerted effort to connect with agencies and programs at the local level, while strengthening connections with states, to expand public awareness on this multi-faceted issue. The STEAP Initiative Toolkit has been designed to be updated and improved as information, resources, and requests for those expand. 5 Things the Aging Network Can Do to Prevent Elder Abuse
Generate awareness, foster action, and build solutions to end elder abuse!
- Work with community partners to recognize June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and use this outreach calendar (PDF | 241 KB) to continue this work throughout the year.
- Collaborate with community partners to identify community needs and solutions to reduce risk factors tied to elder abuse.
- Serve on an Elder Abuse Multi-Disciplinary Team or start a Financial Abuse Specialist Team using Older Americans Act Title VII Elder Abuse or Title III Program Development and Program Coordination funds. Provide free space for the team to meet.
- Join statewide or national elder justice groups at www.elderjusticecoalition.com.
- Stay connected with the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) and USAging to stay abreast of the latest information and resources to help protect our communities from elder abuse.
